Williamsburg, Virginia: March 27, 2020 An Independent Living resident of Williamsburg Landing, a Continuing Care/Life Plan community, has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The resident is currently in the hospital. Williamsburg Landing is working closely with the public health officials to determine who may have come in contact with the resident.
As soon as COVID-19 was diagnosed for the hospitalized resident, Williamsburg Landing took additional steps, including requesting all residents in that building to remain in their apartments. All needs of residents are being attended to by staff.
Starting February 28, 2020 when the first case of COVID-19 appeared in the Commonwealth, Williamsburg Landing’s leadership team started to monitor and activate their Emergency Operations Plan. In accordance with guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Virginia Health Coalition, we have put procedures in place to minimize risks to both our residents and staff. This includes restricted visitation in the healthcare facilities only when a resident is in Hospice and/or is at end of life. All visitors are screened, all packages are left at the front gate and delivered to residents by staff. Employees are being screened and temperatures taken at the beginning of every shift. All communal dining has been eliminated as we are delivering meals to our residents in their homes.
“We initiated aggressive and proactive efforts which we believe will continue to assist us in managing this case as effectively as possible. At Williamsburg Landing, we have an outstanding group of professionals who serve a high- risk population. I cannot emphasize enough that it will take an entire community to control this. We ask that everyone please take the Coronavirus seriously,” said Gregory T. Storer, President & CEO.
No additional details about the patient or individuals with whom the patient has been in contact with will be made publicly available in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Williamsburg Landing is the first and only accredited Life Plan Community in the region. The independent, non-profit organization provides a gracious, socially enriched environment and full continuum of care from independent living to home health, assisted living, memory support, short and long term nursing and adult day services to accommodate seniors needs through every stage of life.
