National Adult Day Services Week is this week, September 17th-23rd. As we get closer to the opening of Williamsburg Landing Adult Day Center in early 2018, our Senior Director of Development, Sally Wolfe, has created a guide on how to give well.

Like so many things in life, there is an art to philanthropy. “But”, you say, “I’m not a philanthropist!” I bet you are! I bet there are many causes you support. Have you made a gift to your church or your college? Maybe you’ve donated to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army? If so, you are a philanthropist!

Williamsburg Landing Appoints Nate Myers Executive Chef

Michael Gaudreau, Director of Culinary Services at Williamsburg Landing, has announced the appointment of Nate Myers as the new Executive Chef.  Prior to joining Williamsburg Landing’s Culinary Services team, Nate was the Executive Chef/Owner of Nate’s Trick Dog Café in Irvington, Virginia for eight years. He also is the owner of Chesapeake Bay Chip Company in Kilmarnock, Virginia which he founded in 2014.

Williamsburg Landing Appoints Debbie Whybra Director of Adult Day Services

Greg Storer, President and CEO of Williamsburg Landing, has announced the appointment of Debbie Whybra, BSW as the Director of Adult Day Services. Williamsburg Landing’s expansion project includes the addition of a new wellness Adult Day program, the first of its kind in Williamsburg, which will be open to the general public. The program is anticipated to open in January 2018.

Williamsburg Landing’s resident website won a Gold Award in the 2017 National Mature Media Awards. Residents at Williamsburg Landing are able to utilize this website to make dining reservations, view activities and fitness calendars, stay up to date on community news, and much more.

2017 LeadingAge Virginia Virtual Art Show

Amongst their busy schedules, many of our residents spend their time creating artwork in a variety of mediums. Whether it be photography, woodworking, knitting, or even ceramics, our residents take great pride in the pieces that they create. Each year, LeadingAge Virginia holds a virtual art show that residents are able to submit artwork in three categories: Photography, Painting and Mixed Media (Quilting, Sculptures, etc.). This year we had five residents participate, and ten pieces of artwork submitted in a variety of mediums.

Joan and Dan have been married for many decades but recently, Dan’s memory was slipping. Joan’s goal is to care for him as she always had – no one else would love him and care for him the way she did. One Tuesday morning she went to get gas in the car on the way to her regular hair appointment – that’s when the neighbor called: “I just saw Dan walking down Jamestown Road – where is he off to? Should I pick him up?”

Williamsburg Landing Named Virginia’s ACT Workplace Success Exemplar

Williamsburg Landing, a premier Life Plan Community in Williamsburg, was named Virginia’s ACT Workplace Success Exemplar for the 2016-2017 ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. Established in 2013, the annual campaign celebrates achievement and creates awareness around the goal of college and career readiness for all. ACT developed the campaign to shine a light on the individuals and organizations doing more with less, overcoming personal or community obstacles, and serving as examples to others working to improve the condition of college and career readiness for all.
