2017 LeadingAge Virginia Virtual Art Show

Amongst their busy schedules, many of our residents spend their time creating artwork in a variety of mediums. Whether it be photography, woodworking, knitting, or even ceramics, our residents take great pride in the pieces that they create. Each year, LeadingAge Virginia holds a virtual art show that residents are able to submit artwork in three categories: Photography, Painting and Mixed Media (Quilting, Sculptures, etc.). This year we had five residents participate, and ten pieces of artwork submitted in a variety of mediums.

2016 LeadingAge Virginia Art Contest

Many residents at Williamsburg Landing participate in our art programs and classes offered in the community. Our hallways are decorated with resident artwork created over the years. Some of our ambitious and talented residents entered their personal pieces in LeadingAge Virginia’s annual art contest. LeadingAge Virginia is an organization of not-for profit retirement communities ranging from independent living, assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and continuing care retirement communities.

Artistic Expression: A Beautiful Way for Seniors to Capture Moments

Art Therapy for Seniors

Whether it’s viewing art in a museum or taking simple pleasure in placing brush to canvas, art has a way of liberating our need for self-expression by communicating in ways that words cannot always describe.

As experts in healthy aging confirm, expressing ourselves through art is not just good for the soul, it is also very beneficial to our minds and bodies.

Creative artistic pursuits provide older adults with multiple benefits, not the least of which is enhanced cognitive function.
